Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Vendrogno, a beautiful town in the province of Lecco in Lombardy, which was an autonomous municipality until December 31st, 2019. With its 297 inhabitants, Vendrogno is a hillside location overlooking Lake Como, known for its 11 historic churches painted and frescoed over the years.

The history of Vendrogno

Vendrogno has a very ancient history, dating back to Roman times. In fact, the "via Spluga", one of the Roman roads that connected Milan to Lindau, passed through here. In the Middle Ages, the Vendrognese territory followed the fortunes of the pieve of Bellano for a long time and had two signaling towers, one in Inesio and one in Mornico.

One of the reasons why Vendrogno is such an interesting place is the presence of many historic churches, including the Church of San Grato, the Parish Church of San Lorenzo, the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, the Church of San Gregorio and the Church of San Giacomo. In addition, there are other churches to visit, such as the Church of San Sebastiano, the Church of San Bernardo, and the Church of San Girolamo al Monte.

Society

Vendrogno has had an interesting demographic evolution over the centuries: in 1771 there were only 135 inhabitants, in 1803 769, after the annexation of Narro in 1809 1199 and in 1853 875.

Administration

Since January 1st, 2020, Vendrogno is no longer an autonomous municipality and has been incorporated into the municipality of Bellano.
