A trip to Vendone
Hi friends, today I want to tell you about a small commune that you'll find in the beautiful region of Liguria, Vendone. With a population of only 357 inhabitants, Vendone is a stunning village located in the province of Savona, close to the Arroscia Valley and Monte Peso Grande.
Let's dive into the details: the geography
The territory of Vendone stretches out on the left bank of the homonymous stream, on a hill that reaches about 400m in altitude. Here you'll find many villages, including Castellaro, where the famous hexagonal tower is located. Vendone is also famous for the Rio Merce Valley and the Rio Paraone Valley.
A little bit of history
Vendone has a very ancient history dating back to the Marca di Torino. The village was known for its fortifications that allowed controlling the pirate invasions that frequently visited the coast.
Over time, the dominion of the Vendonese feud passed from the hands of the local lords to the Marquises of Clavesana until the Albenganese commune in the 14th century.
With the Napoleonic domination, Vendone acquired administrative autonomy and from there on has been part of various administrative entities, up to reaching the province of Savona.
The symbols of Vendone
The commune of Vendone has its own official coat of arms and flag, approved by a decree of the President of the Republic in 2005.
What to see in Vendone
When visiting Vendone, there is a lot of history to uncover. You can visit the parish church of Sant'Antonino, whose architectural style dates back to the 12th century. This church is a beautiful example of how religious architecture was influenced by local history.
My experience in Vendone
Personally, I visited Vendone and was struck by the beauty of the landscape and the history of the commune. Even though the village is small, it has a great story, and the view from the hillsides is incredible. This place would be perfect if you're looking for a quiet escape from the city and to clear your mind from daily worries.
