Physical Geography
Vejano is located along the SS493 Via Claudia Braccianese, on a tuff spur at the foot of Poggio di Coccia. The municipality is located at the confluence of the Gorgolione and Del Becco streams, in the Mignone river. Vejano's climate is classified as zone E, 2113 GR/G.
Origin of the name
The name "Vejano" has a doubtful attribution. It could derive from Veio, the powerful Etruscan city defeated by the Romans in 396 BC. The inhabitants who managed to escape would have settled in these lands, founding a new community. According to other sources, it could instead derive from a late Middle Ages phrase that identified the intersection of four roads with the term "viano".
History
The origins of Vejano date back to the Bronze Age, as evidenced by the archaeological finds of Torre dell'Ischia. Over the centuries, the municipality has hosted several noble families, such as the Anguillara, the Prefetti di Vico, the Orsini and the Santacroce. In 1617, with the restitution of the fief of Vejano by Pope Paul V to the Orsini family, the village finally entered a phase of stability.
Monuments and places of interest

The medieval village preserves the forms of the medieval period, with the four cobblestone streets surrounding the walls of the medieval castle marked by three defense towers. The new part of the town is concentrated around the square and in the north towards Viterbo.
Among the main religious buildings of Vejano, stands out the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Built in 1344, it was restored by Onofrio Santacroce in 1518, where he was buried on October 21, 1551. In 1671 it underwent a new restoration by the Altieri family. During World War II, the church was seriously damaged and rebuilt at the end of the conflict.
