Albaredo

Discover Albaredo: a dive into its history

Hello friend! Have you ever been to Albaredo, a hamlet of Vedelago in the province of Treviso? If you haven't, allow me to tell you a bit about its history.

Origins of the name

The name Albaredo seems to derive from the Latin "arbor" (tree) or "albulus" (poplar), because of the nature of the place.

Albaredo: history, art and Renaissance Villas

History

This place has a Roman origin, as can be seen from the numerous remains (coins, an inhumation tomb, wells and embirics) and from the famous centuriazione romana asolana which includes the whole area between Asolo and the west of Treviso. The parish church of Albaredo was built in the seventeenth century, presumably on the remains of the previous one.

Under the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom, Albaredo became a Comune, including the hamlets of Casacorba, Campigo, and San Marco (Resana).

What to see in Albaredo

There are some things to see in Albaredo, including:

Parish church

The previous church dates back to 1152, but the current one was built towards the end of the seventeenth century. The building was consecrated on May 5, 1716. The ceiling of the church is frescoed with the theme of the Annunciation, a work by Melchiorre Melchiori (1685). The church is also famous for its altarpiece depicting the Annunciation of Mary, a work by the Castilian painter Pietro Damini (1592 - 1631).

Locanda Corona d'oro

A civic building built in the center of the village around the eighteenth century.

Villas

In Albaredo, there are numerous villas worth visiting. Villa Morosini Marcello (now Marcon) from the fifteenth century, Villa Memmo Pinarello (late eighteenth century), and Villa Grimani-Morosini-Gatterburg (around 1600), decorated with bas-reliefs representing the Four Seasons, all by A. Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844).

Conclusion

Albaredo is a very interesting place to visit, especially for those who love history and art. If you haven't been there yet, I suggest you make a trip to admire its monuments and places of interest. And if you've already been there, go see some other attraction you might have missed before. I assure you that you won't regret it!
