Vedelago

Vedelago: a small Venetian municipality

Hello friends, today I want to talk to you about Vedelago, a small municipality in the province of Treviso, located in the Veneto region. With its 16461 residents, Vedelago is not one of the largest municipalities in the province, but it has a very ancient history and culture, as well as some architectural and natural beauties that make it interesting to visit.

Physical geography

The climate of Vedelago is rather temperate, with an average annual temperature of 13°C and an average of 85mm of rainfall per month. However, these figures may vary slightly depending on the seasons.

Vedelago: history, culture, and beauty of Veneto.

Origins of the name

The name of the municipality may derive from several factors, but according to some sources it may be attributable to the name of an ancient Roman who owned land in the area. Another hypothesis speaks of a possible reference to the presence of marshy areas and therefore an old lake.

History

Vedelago has a very ancient history, dating back to the Neolithic period. Usually during this period, remains of tools and mills are often found, such as those found at Fossa Storta di Cavasagra. In addition, the Vedelago area was inhabited by a large pile-dwelling settlement, dating back to the Bronze Age. With the arrival of the Romans, the city experienced a period of intense activity and was involved in the centuriation works that radically reorganized the rural environment.

Monuments and places of interest

If you find yourself in Vedelago, you can't miss the new church built between 1926 and 1927, after the demolition of the previous one. Its Romanesque-Gothic architecture makes this church a fascinating place, albeit a bit gloomy. The external structure and internal columns are also very interesting.

Society

Vedelago is a heavily populated municipality, but thanks to its size, it has a relatively low density compared to other municipalities in the province of Treviso. However, the presence of some foreign minorities, such as foreigners residing in the municipality, who make up 10.5% of the population, make the city rich in different cultures.

In short, Vedelago is a small gem of the province of Treviso, rich in history and culture. Its Romanesque-Gothic church, archaeological finds, and natural beauties make it an interesting tourist destination for those who want to discover the beauty of the most authentic Veneto.
