Villa San Michele
Welcome to Villa San Michele, in the heart of Molise!
Hello everyone! Today I'm going to tell you about Villa San Michele, a beautiful town located in the heart of Molise, in the province of Isernia. This enchanting little village is situated at an altitude of around 900 meters above sea level, completely surrounded by the unspoiled nature of the Molisan woods.
But how did Villa San Michele come about? History tells us that the first inhabitants arrived here around 1700 from the nearby Forli del Sannio, in search of new land for grazing. Initially they only built a few houses, but over time the number of inhabitants grew and the town expanded into what we know today.
Typical Products and San Michele Church
The culinary tradition of Villa San Michele is very rich and varied. Among the most precious typical products we find truffles, stracciate, caciocavallo, and scamorze. If you are a lover of good food, do not miss the opportunity to try these delicacies!
The town is also famous for its San Michele Archangel Church, dedicated to its patron saint. The church is very suggestive and represents an important point of reference for the community.
The Landslide and the Reconstruction of Villa San Michele
Unfortunately, Villa San Michele suffered two terrible landslides in its history, which destroyed many houses and forced the population to move to a different area. In 1933, a first landslide caused serious damage to the town, which was partially destroyed. In 1960, a second, even more ferocious landslide, forced all inhabitants to move to another area, far from the old Pagliarone. The town was completely rebuilt and adopted the name of Villa San Michele in honor of its patron saint.
Physical Geography of Villa San Michele
The new town of Villa San Michele is located on a slope surrounded by a chain of mountains and hills that create a beautiful and suggestive natural amphitheater. The vegetation completely covers the mountains, except for Mount Pizzi, which has a rocky and vegetation-free formation.
In conclusion, Villa San Michele is a beautiful town immersed in nature, with a fascinating history and delicious cuisine. If you have the opportunity to visit, you won't regret it!
