The history of Fussball Club Südtirol

Fussball Club Südtirol, or FC Südtirol, is an Italian football team with its legal headquarters in Bolzano and operational headquarters in Appiano sulla strada del vino. Founded in 1974 as a section of the sports club Sport Verein Milland, it split from the parent company in 1995, changing its name to Football Club Südtirol-Alto Adige and adopting the white and red colors. In 2000, the football club moved to Bolzano and adopted its current name, a symbol of the club's intention to represent not only the capital, but the entire province of Bolzano.

The victory in the A group of Fussball Club Südtirol 2021-2022

Fussball Club Südtirol has established itself as a reference point for football in Alto Adige in less than thirty years. Among the teams in the province, it boasted the most seasons in professionalism and, in the A group of Fussball Club Südtirol 2021-2022, achieved its first historic promotion to Serie B, becoming the only team in Trentino-Alto Adige to have ever reached such a milestone in the era of a single group.

Serie B 2022-2023

In the Serie B 2022-2023, Fussball Club Südtirol plays in the second tier of Italian football. This year's promotion to Serie B is a great achievement for the club and all fans in the region.

The prelude: Sport Verein Milland

The history of Fussball Club Südtirol began in Bressanone in 1974 with the foundation of the sports club Sport Verein Milland. A group of football players registered with the two major football clubs in Bressanone who struggled to find space in their respective teams began to meet at the Regina Elena sports field to play friendly matches. The fate of this first nucleus of football players was intertwined with that of Bressanone insurance broker Ubald Comper, who founded the sports club Sport Verein Milland on April 26, 1974.

The activities of Sport Verein Milland

Sport Verein Milland also dealt with table tennis, fistball, handball, and canoeing. However, the football section was formally established through a deed by notary Giancarlo Giatti. With all players under 18 at the time of the foundation, Giatti's secretary signed as a founding member. Milland's football activities started with the youth sector and without direct affiliation with the Italian Football Federation.

The debut of the first team

The debut of Milland's first team took place in 1977, participating in the following two zonal Third Category championships. In the following years, the Giovanissimi, Esordienti, Pulcini, and finally Allievi teams were added, which were divided between federal championships and those of the association of Alto Adige amateur sports clubs, the Verband der Sportvereine Südtirols (VSS).

Fussball Club Südtirol is, therefore, one of the most important, if not the most important, football clubs in Alto Adige. With a long history behind it, the club has achieved a historic milestone with promotion to Serie B. All fans in the region are proud of the team and its history, and will continue to support Fussball Club Südtirol in their future challenges.
