Locarno

Greetings to Italy

Hello friends, today I would like to talk to you about a small communal fraction in northern Italy called Locarno. This beautiful location is situated on the right bank of the Sesia River, surrounded by breathtaking mountains such as Monte Luvot, the Castle of Gavala, and Bec d'Ovaga. Its name is derived from the Piedmontese language where Lucarn means "place between rocks". Until 1926, Locarno was an autonomous municipality, but now it is part of Varallo, a town in the homonymous valley in the province of Vercelli.

History

The history of Locarno dates back to the distant 1083, when it was mentioned in a donation from Count Guido II of Pombia to the famous Abbey of Cluny. This donation included the Church of San Dionigi and some properties in Locarno and Valsesia. The location became part of the heritage of the priory of San Pietro di Castelletto, a foundation of the Cluniac Congregation based in Castelletto Cervo.

In 1184, among the properties of the priory of San Pietro di Castelletto, there were "ecclesiam Sancti Dionisii de Locarno et ipsam villam in integrum cum suis pertinentiis". This means that the abbey was the owner of the Church of San Dionigi and the entire village of Locarno with all its properties.

Locarno: a hidden treasure among the mountains.

Notes

Locarno is a splendid location immersed in nature, ideal for trekking enthusiasts and for those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday away from the chaos of the city. Reaching Locarno is not difficult, just a few kilometers away from Varallo.
