Location
Vandoies covers an area of approximately 110.54 km² and is the twenty-first largest municipality in South Tyrol. The area is characterized by the presence of two valleys, the Val di Fundres and the Rienza Valley, which give the territory a unique charm. The Rienza Valley extends from Chiusa di Rio Pusteria to Vandoies di Sopra and has a valley floor up to 600 meters wide. The Val di Fundres, on the other hand, widens and narrows along its path, forming spectacular gorges. The highest peak in Vandoies is Punta Bianca Bassa, which stands at 3263 meters above sea level.
Settlement areas
The municipality of Vandoies is composed of four villages: Vandoies di Sotto, Vandoies di Sopra, Vallarga, and Fundres. The center of Vandoies is located on a hill in the river mouth area of Rio Fundres, while the village of Vandoies di Sopra is connected to the capital through a narrow corridor in the industrial area. In the Val di Fundres, there are only a few farms along the first 3 kilometers, but then the villages of Außerdrittel, Dorf, Huntsdorf, and Hinterdrittel open up.
