Valvestino

Welcome to Lake Valvestino!

If you're looking for a peaceful and unspoiled place to relax and enjoy nature, Lake Valvestino is the perfect place for you! Located in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, this artificial lake was created in 1962 for hydroelectric power production through the construction of the Ponte Cola dam on the Toscolano.

Geography

The lake is located in the Gardesana Occidentale nature reserve and the Alto Garda Bresciano regional park, surrounded by a dense forest that provides habitat for deer, roe deer and mouflons. In addition to the surrounding natural beauty, the lake also has a rich history to be explored during your visit. Mount Palotto and Mount Fassane limit the lake to the north, while to the south there are Mount Pracalvis, Mount Alberelli and Mount Albereletti. Finally, access to the caves on Mount Vesta is only possible on foot or by boat.

History

The territory of Val Vestino has had a very interesting history, officially becoming Italian on September 10, 1919 with the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The old border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1802 until the end of the Great War in 1918 is still visible today thanks to the stone plaque that was placed on the former provincial road near the bed of the Toscolano stream, in the locality of Lignago. The plaque was then moved with the construction of the artificial reservoir in 1962 to its current position near the third bridge of Lake Valvestino. Near the plaque is the building of the old barracks of the Royal Finance Guard, now submerged by the waters of the dam and built in the 19th century to control the transit of goods across the border. In addition, a Customs booth already existed from 1859 at Ponte Cola.

How to get to Lake Valvestino

Lake Valvestino is an isolated and undeveloped place for tourists, but can be reached from Gargnano or Idro. If you're looking for a unique experience, we recommend a walk or boat trip to explore the area and admire the natural beauty of the lake.

In conclusion, if you want to enjoy nature and history in a peaceful and unspoiled place, Lake Valvestino is the place for you! Come and visit it and discover it for yourself!
