Hi everyone! Today I want to talk about a wonderful city located in northern Italy: Turin!

An Industrial Heart City

Turin is the fourth largest city in Italy by population and a true economic powerhouse. It is in fact the third complex of economy and industrial production in the country, after Milan and Genoa, having been in the past one of the centers of the Italian industrial triangle.

Art, Culture and Nature

But it's not just an industrial city: Turin is also a city of art, culture and nature. Here you will find countless tourist attractions, from the wonderful Savoy residences, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the natural beauty of the Po hills, a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Turin: art, culture and industry in the global city

The History of Turin

Turin was founded by Taurini around the 3rd century BC, then becoming a Roman colony called ''Iulia Augusta Taurinorum''. After the Ostrogothic domination, it became part of the Duchy of Turin and then under the nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563, Turin became the capital of the Duchy and, from 1720, of the Kingdom of Sardinia, until becoming, in 1861, the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

Events and Traditions

Turin has hosted important international events such as the International Exhibition in 1911 and the XX Winter Olympic Games in 2006. In 2021, the city was chosen to host the ATP Finals tennis tournament and, in 2022, the famous Eurovision Song Contest. Turin is also famous for its local traditions such as vermouth, Gianduiotti chocolates, grissini breadsticks, and espresso coffee.

The Global City

Turin is a city that continues to grow and expand. It has now become a global city, the third in Italy after Milan and Rome, and falls under the "Gamma" category.

The Geographic Position of Turin

Turin is located in the plain delimited by the Stura di Lanzo, Sangone and Po rivers, which cross the city from south to north. Turin is also located in front of some Alpine valleys' mouth, the Susa Valley, which connects Italy to France through the Frejus tunnels, the Lanzo Valleys and the Sangone Valley.

In conclusion, Turin is a city that offers so much to tourists and residents. Its favorable geographical position, millennia-long history and combination of art, culture, nature and industry make it a unique place in its kind.
