Valmorea
Welcome to Valmorea!
Hello friends, today I will talk to you about Valmorea, a scattered municipality in the province of Como. Valmorea takes its name not from a populated center but from the valley on which it extends, located just below 500 meters of altitude in the Lombard Pre-Alps.
Physical Geography
The municipality is located on the left bank of the Gaggiolo stream and is located at the gates of the Piambello mountain community. The territory is characterized by the presence of hills that develop at the foot of Mount Generoso. Despite the average altitude, the municipality is easily reachable from Como, Varese, Milan, and Lugano. Moreover, it is part of the Local Park of Supramunicipal Interest called Parco Valle del Lanza.
History
Valmorea has been frequented since ancient times, as evidenced by the findings of Celtic and Roman Empire tombs. The toponym of Caversaccio dates back to 852, while that of Casanova appears for the first time in a report dated 1295. Both were independent municipalities already in the Statutes of Como of 1335, but were annexed to Cagno in 1807. Later, Caversaccio and Casanova Lanza were reunited in the current municipality by virtue of the royal decree of 1928.
