Valle San Nicolao
Welcome to Valle San Nicolao
Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a beautiful town located in the province of Biella, in Piedmont: Valle San Nicolao, with its 881 inhabitants.
Physical geography
The territory of this town is very diverse and ranges from the hills to the valleys of the area. The shape is irregular and extends between the basin of the Strona di Mosso and the Quargnasca stream. The lowest altitude is reached in the Mombello hamlet, located at the end of the town, while the altitude rises towards the capital, Chiesa. The territory then descends towards the east until it touches the right bank of the Strona di Mosso, where it goes below 400 m.
Inside the municipal territory, there are numerous small hamlets that cluster more around the capital.
Origins of the name
The original name of this territory was the "Valle di Bioglio", but then became Valle San Nicolao when it was dedicated to the parish church located here.
History
This town has a long history dating back to Celtic settlements. In ancient times, it was part of the community of Bioglio, which included a large territory including the hamlets of Piatto, Santa Maria, Vallanzengo, Pettinengo and Camandona.
The separation took place before 1621 when the cadastral surveys and the inhabitants of each place were separated to distinguish them from those of other cities. In 1964, the hamlet of Pianezze was transferred to the municipality of Camandona.
Symbols
The coat of arms and flag of the town of Valle San Nicolao were granted by the decree of the President of the Republic on March 11, 1953.
Monuments and places of interest
The church of San Nicola is one of the most important places of interest in the town. It is a Romanesque structure, rebuilt in the 18th century and which conserves inside a valuable wooden pulpit from the 18th century and an altarpiece that adorns the main altar, created by Cristoforo Solari and Francesco Solari.
Valle San Nicolao is a small town immersed in nature, with a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. It definitely deserves a visit for those who love history, art, and nature. Come and discover it!
