A brief history of the municipality
Valle dell'Angelo is presumed to have been founded in the 10th century by Basilian monks. In the past, the village was governed by the Abbey of Cava and later by the hamlet of Laurino until 1873, when it became an autonomous municipality with the name Piaggine Sottane. From 1811 to 1860, it belonged to the Administrative Subdivision of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies## Circondari of Laurino, while during the period of the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946), it was part of the district of Laurino.
