Anghebeni
Welcome to Anghebeni!
Anghebeni is a small hamlet located in the municipality of Vallarsa, in the province of Trento. If you're looking for a peaceful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, you'll certainly be happy to visit this charming mountain village.
Etymology
Although not much is known about the birth of this town, it is known that Anghebeni was not located where it is now. The original village was swept away by the flood of the Foxi river, a stream that flows near the hamlet. Legend has it that only a woman named Sartori survived the disaster and rebuilt the new village at the foot of Mount Trappola.
History
Anghebeni is a place of great historical importance, having served as a backdrop to World War I. In the lower part of the village lies the former Italian and Austro-Hungarian military cemetery, where the soldiers who died on the mountains of the area were buried. After the end of the war, the bodies of the soldiers were moved to the Pasubio Military Shrine. Recently, thanks to the help of the Alpine troops, the cemetery and its structures have been recovered and inaugurated in 1998.
Monuments and places of interest
In addition to the military cemetery, Anghebeni also offers several monuments and places of interest. At the village church, you can admire an ancient shrine partially destroyed by war and time, which holds a fascinating legend about the birth of the town. Additionally, hiking enthusiasts can enjoy one of the most picturesque corners of the Piccole Dolomiti, thanks to Mount Trappola.
Festivals and events
On May 24th, the festival of Maria Ausiliatrice, sponsored by the village church, is celebrated. This event represents a moment of conviviality for all the inhabitants of the village, who come together to spend a day of hope and serenity.
