Valfloriana
Welcome to Valfloriana!
We would like to introduce you to the scattered municipality of Valfloriana, located in the beautiful autonomous province of Trento. With a population of around 470 inhabitants, this municipality is located in the lower Fiemme valley, on the border with the Cembra valley, on the left bank of the Avisio river.
History
The name of the municipality comes from its patron saint, San Floriano, who is celebrated every year on May 4th. However, according to another tradition, the name comes from its flowery clearings surrounded by fir forests. The municipality is composed of 13 hamlets, with the municipal seat located in the Casatta hamlet, while the other hamlets extend from the Ischiazza valley to the .
1946 Referendum
Valfloriana has an interesting history and has also played an important role in the birth of the Italian Republic. During the 1946 referendum, the municipality recorded the highest percentage in favor of the republican form, with 573 votes equaling 97.12% of the total. The monarchy received only 17 votes.
1966 Triveneto Flood
In November 1966, some hamlets of Valfloriana such as Ischiazza and Maso were severely damaged by the flood and subsequently evacuated. The displaced persons were transferred to the new hamlet of Villaggio. Even today, Ischiazza and Maso remain uninhabited, but are a very popular tourist destination.

Economy
The economy of Valfloriana is mainly based on forestry and cattle breeding. High-quality cheeses and processed meats are produced here. In the summer, the area becomes a popular tourist destination, thanks to its hiking and biking trails.
Valfloriana also has a very ancient and interesting carnival tradition. Typical costumes and masks are carved in wood (matoci), making the Valfloriana carnival one of the few carnivals in the Alpine area that has remained unchanged over time.
