Valdidentro, also known as Val de Dint in the Valtellinese dialect, is a municipality in the province of Sondrio, Lombardy. With a population of approximately 4,138 inhabitants, it is part of the Alta Valtellina Mountain Community. Geography

Valdidentro extends west of Bormio and is washed by the Bormina stream. The valley divides into two branches after Semogo: the Val Viola Bormina and the Valle Foscagno, which leads to the Foscagno Pass and then to Livigno. Valdidentro is divided into fractions: Premadio, Pedenosso, Isolaccia, Semogo, and San Carlo (Valdidentro) and also includes two valleys of tourist interest: the Valle di Fraele and the Val Viola. Additionally, to reach Valdidentro, you can travel via the 301 Foscagno State Road from Livigno to Bormio.

History

Valdidentro has a history that dates back to the year thousand. The valley was located between the south and north of the Alps and developed thanks to the agricultural-pastoral economy and the trades that passed between the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Venice with the German Empire. In the area, there are many historical relics that testify to the past of the geographical area, including "the church of Pedenosso" that stands on the rock as a sign of fortification, the San Gallo church in the Premadio fraction, and the Fraele Towers, placed between Monte delle Scale (2521 m above sea level) to the east and Cima Plator (2910 m above sea level) to the west.

Symbols

The municipal coat of arms and the gonfalon were granted by the decree of the President of the Republic on April 26, 1983. The Fraele towers and the San Gallo church are present.

Demographic evolution

Over the years, Valdidentro has undergone demographic changes, going from the agricultural population that lived on-site to the tourist population that now stays there.

Economy

Valdidentro is known for being a thermal tourist destination, thanks to the numerous thermal water sources that spring from the Reit Mountain wall. The temperature of these waters is around 35 and 40 degrees and is used for baths, sludge therapy, diuretic drinks, inhalation therapy, and massages. In particular, they are indicated for skin infections caused by microbial and fungal agents and those of the airways. To take advantage of these, you can go to the Bagni di Bormio, near the Premadio fraction.
