Valbrembo

Welcome to Valbrembo!

Hi everyone! Today I'm going to talk about Valbrembo, an Italian municipality located in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy. The town has a population of about 4350 inhabitants and is situated on the left bank of the Brembo river, a few kilometers west of Bergamo. Valbrembo is also a gateway to the Val Brembana for those coming from the southern part of the province. In this text, I will tell you a little bit about the history of this picturesque place.

History

According to some sources, there may have been some settlements of the Cenomani Gaulish populations in the Briolo area between the 5th and 4th centuries BC. However, there are no archaeological findings to confirm this hypothesis. The first stable settlement, instead, dates back to the Roman era. Furthermore, during the medieval period, the villages that make up Valbrembo had a great development, as can still be seen today from the ancient buildings that make up the historic centers of Scano and Ossanesga.

Valbrembo: history, nature and tradition in Lombardy.

The Guelphs and the Ghibellines

During the Middle Ages, there were clashes between the adverse factions of the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, from which can be inferred from the numerous towers and fortifications that dot the historic center of Valbrembo. However, in 1427 the situation returned to normal when the municipal territory became part of the Republic of Venice. From that moment on, there were no more significant episodes, and the villages of Valbrembo were able to enjoy their rural life in peace.

The administrative union

In the 20th century, in 1928, there was the administrative union of the municipalities of Ossanesga and Scano al Brembo, giving rise to the current municipal institution of Valbrembo. Since then, the town has grown considerably, and today it is a charming place where you can find history, nature, and tradition.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the flag of Valbrembo were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on June 11, 1980, and represent the history, culture, and beauty of the municipality. The coat of arms consists of a shield vertically divided into two parts, with the left part representing the old Briolo bridge and the right part representing a view of the historic center of Scano, surrounded by the green hills and the Brembo river. The flag is a rectangular yellow cloth with a green lower part. In the center is the municipal coat of arms, surrounded by the blue and white colors of the Republic of Venice.

Conclusions

So, guys, here is my story about Valbrembo. A charming Italian municipality that is constantly growing, with an ancient and fascinating history, rich in traditions and culture. If you have the chance to visit it, I highly recommend that you do so: it will be an unforgettable experience!
