Lizzola

Welcome to Lizzola: A journey to discover the hamlet of Valbondione

Hello friends, today I'm taking you on a journey to discover Lizzola, a charming hamlet located in the municipality of Valbondione, in the province of Bergamo.

Physical geography

Lizzola is located in a small basin, at about 1250 meters above sea level, where the Asta valley and the Bondione valley meet. The settlement is composed of several districts including ''Ebondì'', ''Cantone'', ''Casa Oberti'', and others. The territory is delimited by the Serio river to the north and includes the entire Bondione valley, surrounded by spectacular mountains such as Pomnolo and Cimone. To the south, there are the Sponda Vaga and Vigna Soliva mountains, and the Asta valley which divides the territorial competences with the other hamlet of Fiumenero.

The provincial road SP49 of the Upper Val Seriana is the only access route to the hamlet and the numerous paths and mule tracks connect it to the nearby towns. In the area, there are also several small streams, especially torrents that swell only after heavy rains, the main one of which is Bondione that crosses the valley.

Lizzola: among mountains, streams, and cheeses.

Origin of the name

The name Lizzola may have two possible origins. According to a very common interpretation, the name derives from the sled "Lédda", used for the transport of wood. The second theory, less plausible, sees the name derived from the Latin word "Ilicea", which indicated a grove of holm oaks.

History

The presence of tools used for mining extraction since the Roman Empire, suggests that there were already settlements on the slopes of Mount Pomnolo.

Tourist attractions

The beauty of the landscape of Lizzola, with its beautiful mountains and streams, attracts many tourists every year. In addition, the area is very famous for cheese production. The mountain huts, located on the slopes of the mountains, are an interesting attraction for those who love nature and local food.

The Düc waterfall is also interesting, where the Bondione torrent flows into the Serio, creating a breathtaking spectacle. There are numerous paths that can be traveled on foot, by bike, or on horseback, leading to places such as Cima Alta, Cima del Cacciatore, the ridge of Mount Sasna, and Mount Pomnolo.

In winter, the hamlet turns into an important ski resort thanks to the presence of ski lifts, ski slopes and a snowpark.

Events and festivals

Several events take place in the hamlet of Lizzola throughout the year. Among these, the most famous is the "Sagra della Brugnola", held in early September and celebrating the brugnola, a typical mountain fruit used for the production of jams and liqueurs. In addition, in July, the "Lizzola Trail" takes place, a running competition that invites you to discover the trails and natural beauties of the area.

Conclusions

Lizzola is an ideal destination for those seeking peace, nature, and good food. The hamlet offers numerous tourist attractions throughout the year, while in winter it turns into an important ski resort. The beauty of the landscape and its rich history make Lizzola a destination not to be missed.
