Fiumenero

Welcome to Fiumenero!

Hello everyone! Today I'm talking about Fiumenero, a hamlet in the municipality of Valbondione, in the province of Bergamo. The name Fiumenero, or ''Fömnigher'' in Bergamo dialect, means ''Black Smoke'': a suggestive name for a small mountain village that stretches on both sides of the Seriana valley, crossed by the Serio River.

Fiumenero: unspoiled nature and ancient history

Physical Geography

Territory

Fiumenero is located at about 800 meters above sea level and is surrounded by unspoiled nature. The territory is predominantly mountainous and includes Pizzo del Diavolo di Tenda, the Soliva peak, and Pizzo Redorta with the underlying Aser Valley, where the Baroni al Brunone refuge is located, included in the Sentiero delle Orobie.

The residential area is completely located in the valley floor and the portion that extends on the right orographic side of the valley includes the entire hydrographic basin of the Nero (river), with the small valleys of Aser, Salto and Valsecca. Instead, the portion on the left orographic side of the valley borders Gromo, Colere, and Lizzola and is composed of the peaks of Vigna Soliva and Vigna Vaga and Lake Spigorel.

Only through the SP49 provincial road of the upper Seriana valley, you can reach the mountain village, and there are numerous paths and mule tracks that connect Fiumenero to nearby centers. In addition, there are small streams that water the territory, mainly streams that swell only after abundant rains and collect excess water from the surrounding mountains.

History

Fiumenero has an ancient and fascinating history: it is believed that there were occasional settlements already in the Roman Empire, when the presence of iron mines was discovered in the area. Over the following centuries, the area was inhabited by groups of people who moved here to find refuge from the raids and incursions of the warrior tribes that ravaged the valley floor.

Fiumenero has always been a quiet location, far from the noise of the city, and has undergone the political transformations that took place in the rest of the province or region without ever actively participating in them.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Fiumenero is a perfect location for those who love nature and tranquillity, immersed in a breathtaking panorama that ranges from mountains to watercourses. This small mountain village has an ancient and interesting history, albeit poorly documented, that tells of a past of hard work and rebirth. If you are looking for a destination for a relaxing holiday, Fiumenero is definitely an excellent choice: try it to believe it!
