Val Brembilla

All about Val Brembilla

Hello friends! Today I will talk to you about Val Brembilla, a municipality located in the beautiful Italian region of Lombardy. Val Brembilla has 4194 inhabitants and is located in a lateral valley of the Val Brembana together with the municipalities of Sedrina and Zogno, forming a district of commerce.

History

Val Brembilla was established in 2014 from the merger of the municipalities of Brembilla and Gerosa, after a referendum held in December 2013. The first municipal elections were held in May 2014. The coat of arms and flag of the municipality were granted in December 2014, bringing together symbols taken from the coats of arms of the two communities that formed the municipality.

Val Brembilla: treasures of art, nature, and culture.

Monuments and places of interest

For lovers of art and architecture, the Parish Church of Val Brembilla is a must-see. Located in the center of the town, it is the largest in the entire municipality and is also the headquarters of the local vicariate of Brembilla-Zogno. For nature lovers, the Ponte del Cappello is a pedestrian bridge located at the entrance of Val Brembilla (valley), which offers a breathtaking view.

If you are passionate about local history and culture, the Museum of Transhumance is the right place for you. Located on the main street of Brembilla, it tells the history of cheese and shepherd life in Bergamo and is housed in the former Bersaglio, but is currently under renovation. Finally, if you missed the EXPO 2015 in Milan, the EXPO Pavilion has been rebuilt in the former town square and became the fair and market area in 2019.

Society

Val Brembilla has experienced a demographic evolution over the years, and currently has 4194 inhabitants.

Anthropological geography

The municipal district consists of the municipal seat of Brembilla and the hamlets of Cà del Foglia, Camorone, Catremerio, Cavaglia, Cerro, Gerosa, Laxolo, Malentrata and Sant'Antonio Abbandonato. Catremerio is interesting for the structure of the village which has maintained its rural soul over the centuries thanks to recent restorations. Malentrata is arranged like a fortress, with houses perched and connected to each other and the typical eighteenth-century church. Cavaglia still preserves the characteristic stone and wood dwellings with arched doors. Laxolo rose on land once occupied by a lake, hence the name "solitary", and Sant'Antonio Abbandonato houses the Parish Church of Sant'Antonio and the territory to the east of the church flows into the municipality of Zogno.

Cerro is a small cluster of houses scattered in four districts (Testi, Foppa, Rudino and Cà Donzelli) and Camorone is a nucleus reachable from the entrance of the village coming from the locality of Ponti.

I thank you for giving me the opportunity to present this beautiful Italian area. Come visit us in Val Brembilla when you can, you will be welcome!
