Segno: a peaceful hamlet in the province of Savona
Segno is a small hamlet belonging to the municipality of Vado Ligure, in the province of Savona. Situated at 191 meters above sea level, it counts about 354 inhabitants. Segno became part of the municipality of Vado Ligure in 1929 and is a place of peace and tranquility, where one can appreciate the countryside landscape and life, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Physical geography
Segno sprawls over a wide geographical area that includes the localities of Bassi, Bricco, Carpeneta, Campo Ferrato, Contrada, Cundan, Cunio, Gatti, Marroni, Piano, Ponte dell'Isola, Ritano, San Bernardo, Suenghe, and Verma. The majority of the territory is crossed by the Segno stream.
History
Segno followed the historical events of the county seat of Vado Ligure. It was owned by the Roman city of Vada Sabatia and the Aleramic domains until the times of the feudal family of Del Carretto, who built a castle there that is now in ruins. Later on, the territory came under the control of the Republic of Genoa and then under the Kingdom of Sardinia. In 1929, it was incorporated into the municipality of Vado Ligure.
