Uscio

Let's Discover Uscio Together

Hello everyone! Today I want to take you on a journey to discover Uscio, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Genoa in Liguria. With just over 2,000 inhabitants, this town located in the Recco valley is a charming destination immersed in the beauty of nature.

An Enchanted Territory

Uscio has a very diverse territory, composed of different nuclei scattered along the SS333 road that winds through the peaks of Mount Tuggio, Mount Rosso, Mount Serro, and Mount Cugnietti. These vantage points offer enchanting views of the surroundings. Even Colle Caprile, which rises to a height of 470 meters, offers spectacular panoramas. From here, although after a short climb, you can descend towards the inhabited area of Gattorna and then continue towards the Val Fontanabuona.

Uscio: millenary history and unspoiled nature.

At the Origins of Aosci

The name of this Ligurian municipality is Aosci, which means "gateway". However, it seems that the toponym "Uscio" derives from a modification of a primitive "Angustium", dating back to the Roman presence in the area. In any case, the toponym "Uscio" was officially adopted only in 1734.

The History of a Territory

Uscio's history dates back to the Neolithic period when the territory was inhabited by few people. Over the centuries, the municipality came under the control of the Roman Empire, the archbishops of Milan, and finally the Genoese. The latter, in 1190, obtained control over all of Liguria, including Uscio.

From that moment onwards, the territory underwent different dominations, from the Aragonese to the French, until the Unity of Italy. Numerous archaeological finds testify to the presence of fortifications, villages, and churches over the centuries. In particular, the Pieve di Sant'Ambrogio is a very ancient church dating back to the period of the Archdiocese of Milan.

Conclusion

Uscio, with its millenary history and suggestive territory, is a place that definitely deserves a visit. The beauty of the landscapes, the pure air, and the peace that you breathe here will make you forget the chaos of the city. If you are looking for a place to regenerate your body and mind, I recommend coming to Uscio. You won't regret it!
