An area immersed in nature

The Municipality of Urbe is located on the northern slope of the Ligurian Apennines, in the Orba River valley, surrounded by forests and hills. One of the focal points of this area is the Marasca Rock which rises to 948 meters above sea level. There is also a part of the Antenna Lake within the municipal territory.

City, nature, and history in northern Liguria.

A typical climate of northern Italy

The climate of Urbe and the Orba River valley is typical of the flatlands of northern Italy, but during winter the area is characterized by a very high average snowfall compared to the other valleys in the area. In fact, snow can fall down to the valley floor, where it is approximately 500 meters above sea level, and the annual average snowfall is about 190-200 cm. In the mountainous areas over 800 meters, the annual average snowfall rises to over 300 cm.

Despite the winter being characterized by abundant snowfall, the particular orography of the area allows the valley to be protected from the humid and mild winds from the sea. In fact, the Monte Beigua group blocks these winds, making the Urbe valley unique in the Savona province. In the summers, the days are not too hot, especially in the mountainous areas, and the nights are cool throughout the valley.

The history of Urbe

The territory of the current municipality of Urbe was already known in the 8th century as a hunting ground of the Lombard kings in the Selva dell'Orba. Over the centuries, Urbe was under the possession of the Diocese of Acqui and the Castle of Urbe, which unfortunately was destroyed in the 11th century.
