The history of Preggio

The area of Preggio has Etruscan roots, as evidenced by the remains of Etruscan walls dating back to the 4th century BC on Mount Murlo, just north of the village. Bellona or Bellonia, as the locality was called in Roman times, was an important road junction, located along the shortest road that connected Perugia to Cortona, as well as on the road between the Upper Tiber Valley and Lake Trasimeno.

In 917, Emperor Berengar I confirmed the Rocca of Preggio as a feudal lordship of Marquis Uguccione II Bourbon del Monte Santa Maria. Over the centuries, the Preggio area also had possessions of the Degli Oddi, a historic Perugian family, and their influence is still felt today.
