The city of Tusa is crossed by the Tusa Stream, which originates on Mount Contrasto and flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea in Castel di Tusa. Tusa is also fortunate to have two beautiful beaches, Lampare and Marina, which obtained the Blue Flag in 2017 thanks to their cleanliness and beauty.

Tusa: History, beaches and monuments of the city of Messina.

History

Tusa has had an important development since ancient times, becoming the place where the population of Alesa Arconidea settled after the destruction of the city. This happened because of an earthquake in 856. Over the centuries, Tusa has experienced various dominations, including Roman, Byzantine, Arab, and Norman.

Monuments and places of interest

Tusa is a particularly rich city in history, and there are many monuments and places of interest to visit. Among the most important civil structures are the Castle of San Giorgio, built in the 13th century by the Ventimiglia family, and the Tonnara del Corvo, dismantled in the early 19th century due to its poor profitability.

For art enthusiasts, there is the "Atelier sul mare," an art hotel, and the Fiumara d'arte foundation.

Tusa also has numerous churches and religious monuments, including the Church of San Nicola di Mira, which may have been the provisional seat of the bishop and the Matrice Church, which was supposed to become the bishop's seat of the city. However, the restoration of the bishopric did not take place, and it was assigned to Nicosia instead.

In Tusa, the apex of the ecclesiastical hierarchy was represented by the "curate vicar," who administered the ecclesiastical revenues. In the secular clergy, there were the priests of the various churches, and they were brought together in 1585 in the "Rota communia della città di Tusa," in order to ensure an equitable distribution of revenues.

Conclusions

Tusa is a beautiful and historically rich town that is absolutely worth visiting. Among its monuments and natural beauties, Tusa deserves to be discovered and appreciated in its entirety. I hope this brief summary has piqued your interest, and I recommend you discover Tusa in person!
