Tuenno

Welcome to Tuenno!

Hello friends! Today, I'll be talking to you about Tuenno, a former municipality in the autonomous province of Trento that, since January 1, 2016, has been part of the new municipality of Ville d'Anaunia, along with the municipalities of Nanno and Tassullo. Tuenno had a population of 2,425 and is famous for the beautiful Lake Tovel, one of the most charming spots in the area.

The History of Tuenno

Tuenno has an interesting history. Its coat of arms was red, and it is believed to have very ancient origins. Within the territory of the former municipality, there is Lake Tovel, which was involved in a historical event known as "the disappearance of the waters." In 1961, the lake turned completely red, a phenomenon that lasted several months and caught the attention of the world.

Tuenno: history, art, and nature.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Tuenno has several religious architectures of great interest. The church of Santa Emerenziana, located at the entrance of the Val di Tovel, dates back to the 11th-12th century and was built for the friars of Campiglio. The facade is quite particular, and on the south side, there is a kind of barn-stable. The church of Sant'Orsola and Compagne is stunning and dates back to 1914. It has been the parish church since 1920 and houses a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows. The church of San Nicolò, in a classical style, was renovated in 2005. Finally, the church of Tovel, located in the Val di Tovel above the lake, is very charming but requires a beautiful walk to get there.

Society

The population of Tuenno, in the 2001 census, was 418 "Ladin" people, meaning people who speak a Romance Alpine language. This minority is significant and represents a particular feature of the area.

Culture

Tuenno is a very active municipality from a cultural point of view. Some events, such as Piazzarolada, GoldenFest, Apple Festival, and New Year's Eve @ Tuenno, attract many people and are very popular. Additionally, the week dedicated to culinary traditions and wood, called Cioci, Stéle, Stéce e Bosìe, is a very interesting event for those who want to learn about local customs.

Administration and External Links

If you want to learn more about the administration and projects of Tuenno, you can visit the official website of the new municipality of Ville d'Anaunia. Additionally, I recommend learning more about the Palù di Tuenno, a protected biotope located in the area.

Conclusion

Here is an overview of Tuenno, a very charming place that is part of a new and, at the same time, ancient municipality. The cultural, artistic, and natural richness of the area is definitely worth a visit. I recommend taking a map and exploring the surroundings, which offer breathtaking views. Have a good trip!
