Among the most widespread are ''Viculus et alter Viculus'' (Roman era), ''Truentianum et alterum Truentianum'' (568-774), ''Trontianum et alterum Trontianum'', ''Loco Torencjano'' mentioned in documents from 969, ''Tronsanum et alterum Tronsanum'', ''Tronsanum superior et Tronsanum Inferior'', ''Troncianum'', ''Tronsano'', Tronzano (1256).

Origin of the Name

There are several theories about the origin of the meaning of the name Tronzano. One of the most accredited derives the name from the Latin word ''struere'' or ''con-struere'', which means to build masonry works or even united-built suburb. Alternatively, it is supposed that Tronzano derives from Transitus Salicensis (Salii's transit or passage), a people who in 590 BC occupied and settled in these territories. Finally, it is believed that the word comes from the Latin adjective in 'anum'.

History

Tronzano Vercellese is a locality boasting an important and interesting history. Here, there are numerous testimonies from the Roman era, such as the castle of Castrum Quirini. We are near the Roman "Mansio Viae Longae" (the ancient Santhià) and the territory was divided into two distinct villages: Truentianum and Alter Truentianum. During the reign of the Lombards (568-774), Truentianum was occupied by the Lombard conquerors, followers of the Lombard law, while Alter Truentianum was left to the Italo-Romans as owners of the soil and followers of Roman law.
