Tromello

Tromello: History and Territory

Hello everyone! Today we will talk about Tromello, a municipality in the province of Pavia with a very ancient history. Known as ''Tromellum'' since the 12th century, over the centuries it has seen the rise of several noble families, including the Beccaria and the Stampa. In 1818, the municipality of Roventino was incorporated and until 1927 Tromello was also part of the Torrazza fraction, which later merged with Borgo San Siro.

Located in central Lomellina, Tromello is located on the right bank of the Terdoppio. Interestingly, the historical path of the Via Francigena passes through the village, coming from Mortara and the Roventino fraction and heading towards Garlasco.

Bell Tower Emergency

An important event that involved Tromello was the emergency of the bell tower of the parish church of San Martino di Tours, which began in December 2009. Following the appearance of dangerous cracks, a state of emergency was declared and the adjacent nursing home and ten houses near the bell tower were evacuated. The area was declared a red zone and guarded by volunteers from the municipality and the Civil Protection. After the safety works were done, evacuated families and nursing home guests were able to return to their homes. The emergency ended in March 2010.

Tromello has just under 4,000 inhabitants and its station, along the Vercelli-Pavia railway, is served by regional trains run by Trenord under the service contract stipulated with the Lombardy Region.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Tromello is a municipality with a very rich history and a territory that has seen many important events. The Via Francigena, for example, runs through it and makes it an interesting place for pilgrims. The church of San Martino Vescovo, on the other hand, is a work of art that is definitely worth a visit.
