Trivento

Trivento: a charming town among the Molise mountains

Hello everyone! Today I would like to talk to you about a beautiful town in Italy located in the Molise region, the municipality of Trivento. With its 4,428 inhabitants, Trivento is an ideal place for those who love tranquility and beauty.

The Physical Geography of Trivento

The town is located in the Trigno valley, perched on a hill. Thanks to its position, Trivento enjoys a continental climate, where the cold winter contrasts with the mildness of summer, which can sometimes become very hot.

The History of Trivento

The town has a millennia-old history that dates back to ancient times. Its original name was Terventum, and it was inhabited by the Samnites before being colonized by the Romans in the 3rd century BC. In the Middle Ages, already in the 6th century, the primary cathedral was built, which would become a diocesan seat in 1076.

In addition, the hill near the Church hosts the beautiful Castle built in the thirteenth century, which passed to the Caldora after defeating the Angevins. Later, several fiefs were confiscated and sold to Galcerán de Requesens i Joan de Soler, a Catalan politician and military man. Over the centuries, several families succeeded each other as feudal lords, including the d'Afflitto and the Caracciolo di Melissano, until the abolition of feudalism.

The Diocese of Trivento

The Diocese of Trivento, founded by Casto and Secondino of Larino, would have been wanted by Pope Clement I in the tenth century as a new diocesan seat after the decline of Aufidena in Abruzzo. Today it represents one of the religious reference points of the area.

Trivento is a town full of charm, history and culture: its location, climate, castle and diocese make it a unique place in its kind. Not only that, the town is located in the province of Campobasso, where you can admire other equally charming places, such as Civitacampomarano, Frosolone, and many other characteristic villages. There are numerous sports and outdoor activities to choose from, such as trekking and excursions in nature, as well as guided tours of the castle or archaeological sites in the area.

In short, if you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Molise, I recommend putting Trivento on your list of possible destinations. You won't regret it!
