Trinità

Discovering Trinità: a town rich in history, culture and nature

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk about a small town in Piedmont that surprised me for its beauty and history: Trinità. This town in the province of Cuneo has about 2230 inhabitants and is a real treasure to discover.

A millenary history

The first mention of Trinità dates back to 1008. At that time, the village arose at the gates of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity and Saint Michael the Archangel, which no longer exists today. Over the centuries, the presence of a "Villa" has been mentioned in several documents. In 1944/1945, during World War II, Trinità suffered a violent massacre by German troops who fired on the population gathered in the square, killing unarmed citizens. However, the whole community courageously faced the events of the time, immediately starting the difficult task of moral and material reconstruction. For this reason, the city has received the Silver Medal for Civil Merit.

Monuments and places of interest

In the city center, there is the Civic Tower, an ancient brick bell tower with a pyramid-shaped spire and the church of the Holy Trinity, in perfect Piedmontese Baroque style. Imposing and majestic, the church was designed by the architect Dogliani Giovanni Battista Borra in 1750. Behind the church, there is the castle of the Costa counts, now used for tourist and cultural activities. From the courtyard, you can admire a beautiful panorama of the Alpine arc, from the Marittime to the Monviso.

Trinità is located within the Gesso-Stura River Park, a protected area created to protect the faunal and forest heritage of the Stura Valley. Numerous are the pedestrian and cycle paths that cross the park and connect Trinità to the nearby towns. The Fisherman's Path is probably the most evocative, thanks to its excellent photographic views and the possibilities of observing nature.

The social and cultural life of Trinità

From a demographic point of view, the city has seen an increase in foreign citizens in recent years. As of December 31, 2017, according to the National Institute of Statistics, foreign citizens residing in Trinità were 121, with a majority coming from Romania and Morocco.

Among the most important local traditions, on April 23, we celebrate Saint George, the patron saint of Trinità. In autumn, instead, the Fera dij pocio e dij bigat takes place, a fair and exhibition that attracts visitors from all over the region.

The geography of Trinità

Trinità's population is distributed 50% in the urban area, while the other half lives in the hamlets of Bricco, Molini, Perucca, Savella, and San Giovanni, as well as in the surrounding agricultural areas. The commercial area par excellence is La Madonnina, located in the area of via Roma, where most of the commercial activities of the town are concentrated.

In short, Trinità is a really interesting and varied town, to be discovered slowly to fully appreciate all its beauties. If you are in the area, do not miss the opportunity to visit this small gem of Piedmont!
