History of Trezzano sul Naviglio
The history of Trezzano sul Naviglio is closely linked to the history of Milan. The town was founded by the landowners of the area, the Avvocati family, but after their decline, the properties were divided among the Monastery of S.Ambrogio and other local lords. The parish of Trezzano was then inserted into the Pieve di Cesano Boscone.
In 1396, the Lord of Milan Gian Galeazzo Visconti granted many agricultural funds to Trezzano to the Certosa di Pavia. In the seventeenth century, the city was given in fief to Lopez Ponce de León, with the title of Marquis. When Lopez died, he left the fief to his brother-in-law, Antonio Landolina, Baron of Belludia. The Landolina family held the fief until its suppression in 1796, with the advent of the Cisalpine Republic. The coat of arms of the municipality takes up the red poles on a golden field of the coat of arms of the Casa de Ponce de León and the three silver lilies on a black background of the Landolina coat of arms.
The agricultural village of Trezzano
Trezzano sul Naviglio was originally an agricultural village called Treciano. It developed around two convents, one of the Carthusian order and the other Cistercian, when the Naviglio Grande was built in the thirteenth century. In 1771 it counted 605 inhabitants. In 1809, Loirano and Terzago were annexed to Trezzano, but in 1811 the municipality was incorporated by Corsico. Everything was cancelled in 1816 by the Austrians, but in 1841 the first of the two decrees of the Napoleonic age that established the autonomy of the municipality was reinstated. In 1862, the original name "Trezzano" was added "sul Naviglio".
The development of Trezzano sul Naviglio
Trezzano sul Naviglio remained a small municipality until the construction of the new state road 494 Vigevanese in 1960. Entrepreneur Renzo Zingone started a real estate operation that provided for the construction of 390,000 square meters of residential, 700,000 square meters of industrial and 110,000 square meters of services. This led to massive urbanization of the area, resulting in the current city of four million square meters.
Conclusions
Trezzano sul Naviglio is therefore a municipality with ancient roots and closely linked to the history of Milan. Once a small agricultural village, today it has become a highly developed city thanks to the construction of the new state road and the real estate operation of Renzo Zingone. If you come to visit Milan, it is certainly worth a visit to Trezzano sul Naviglio.
