Tresivio is a small town of about 2,000 inhabitants located in Lombardy, in the province of Sondrio. The town is famous for the Santa Casa Lauretana, a church dedicated to the Nativity of Mary, celebrated on September 8th, and which is a transfer of that of Loreto. Origins of the Name
The name Tresivio probably derives from the Latin "tres viae", meaning three roads, as the ancient center of the village was located at the crossroads of three main streets.
History
The town of Tresivio has ancient origins, dating back to Roman domination. Over the centuries, the locality has been governed by different noble families, including the Visconti and the Sforza, and has undergone various vicissitudes following wars and occupations. However, the town has managed to preserve its historical and cultural heritage.
Symbols
The coat of arms, the banner, and the flag of the municipality were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on October 10th, 2013. The banner is a truncated flag of red and white, while the flag is a truncated flag of red and white, loaded with the aforementioned coat of arms.

Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul
Located in Piazza Santi Pietro e Paolo, in the center of Tresivio, the Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul is a Baroque building dating back to the 18th century. Inside, you can admire several works of art, including a 15th-century fresco depicting the Madonna and Child.
Church of S. Giovanni
The Church of S. Giovanni is also located in Piazza Santi Pietro e Paolo and is a building dating back to the 13th century. The church has been restored several times over the centuries but still retains its original Romanesque portal.
Calvary Church
The Calvary Church is located on the Rupe del Calvario, a hill overlooking the center of Tresivio. The building dates back to the 16th century and is characterized by a series of frescoes depicting the Stations of the Cross.
Church of San Tomaso
The Church of San Tomaso is located in the eponymous district and is a building dating back to the 17th century. The interior of the church is decorated with frescoes and stuccoes.
Church of San Rocco
The Church of San Rocco is located in the district of Piedo and is a building dating back to the 17th century. The church is famous for the fresco depicting San Rocco and for the valuable Baroque decorations.
Church of S. Abbondio
The Church of S. Abbondio is located in the eponymous district and is a building dating back to the 13th century. Inside, you can admire a fresco depicting the Madonna and Child.
Church of Sant'Antonio
The Church of Sant'Antonio is located in the eponymous district and is a building dating back to the 17th century. The interior of the church is decorated with stuccoes and frescoes.
Church of Santo Stefano
The Church of Santo Stefano is located in the eponymous locality and is a building dating back to the 15th century. The church has been restored several times over the centuries but has retained its original character.
Santa Casa Lauretana
The Santa Casa Lauretana is the largest church in Tresivio, located in Piazza Santi Pietro e Paolo, in the center of the town. The building, erected in Baroque style from 1646 onwards, is dedicated to the Nativity of Mary and houses a transfer of the Santa Casa di Loreto.
Society
The Municipality of Tresivio has a population of about 2,000 inhabitants and is part of the Valtellina di Sondrio Mountain Community. The town is part of the integrated system "Pizzoccheri della Valtellina": a quality label that guarantees the authenticity of the ingredients and the artisanal preparation of the famous Valtellina pizzoccheri.
Demographic Evolution
In recent years, the population of Tresivio has remained relatively stable, going from 1,826 inhabitants in 2001 to 2,011 inhabitants in 2018.
Administration
The administration of the Municipality of Tresivio is composed of the Mayor and the Municipal Council, elected by the citizens every five years. The current Mayor is Franco Bernasconi, who took office in 2019.
