Meano

Meano: a fraction of Trento

Hi everyone! Today we will talk about Meano, a fraction of the municipality of Trento.

This small town is located on Mount Calisio, about one kilometer from Gardolo di Mezzo, three from Gardolo and two from Lavis. Together with Cortesano, Gardolo di Mezzo, Gazzadina, San Lazzaro and Vigo Meano, it forms the 2nd Municipal Decentralization District of Meano di Trento.

History

The history of Meano dates back to 1226, when the local church was built. "Plebs Meani diocesis Tridentine" is documented in 1395. Meano was an autonomous municipality until it was annexed to Trento in 1926.

Monuments and places of interest

The main monument of Meano is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, located near the center of the city. This sacred building, built in Romanesque style, has a unique charm and attracts tourists of all ages. The square bell tower of the church is of particular interest, as it dates back to the 11th century.

Infrastructure and transport

Meano is a very well-positioned city, as it is located near Trento and has access to the provincial road 76. This road is used every day by hundreds of trucks transporting porphyry from the quarries of Val di Cembra, especially from Albiano (Italy). The route of the Via Claudia Augusta still passes through Meano today, and there are some traces of the ancient road.

To reach Meano, you can use line 3 of the Trento urban transport service. This makes the journey easy and convenient for anyone who wants to visit Meano.

Notes

There are no particular notes to keep in mind about Meano.

In general, Meano is a wonderful place for those looking for a historic and well-positioned city, with many cultural and natural beauty attractions. If you decide to visit this location, do not forget to visit the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and to travel the Via Claudia Augusta road. You won't regret it!
