Gardolo di Mezzo

A dive into the history of Gardolo di Mezzo

Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about Gardolo di Mezzo, a hamlet of the municipality of Trento that has a very ancient history. Together with Cortesano, Gazzadina, Meano (Trento), San Lazzaro (Trento) and Vigo Meano, it forms the Municipal Decentralization District number 2 of Meano (Trento) of Trento.

The archaeological discovery

Gardolo di Mezzo has the fortune of boasting the discovery of the first settlement, dating back to the 4th century BC. In 2003, moreover, a village and a place of worship dating back to 4000 BC were brought to light near the village!

Until August 2003, Gardolo di Mezzo was not known for the presence of any archaeological areas of interest except for the wall remains of a medieval castle located on the top of the Dosso della Purga.

The archaeological monitoring of the landslides was almost within the scope of a real estate development project that allowed to bring to light this very extensive area, immediately revealing significant interest.

The site of Gardolo di Mezzo represents a unique example throughout the Alpine area and based its economic activity on the exploitation of the mining resources of Monte Calisio, such as those of the Busa del Pomar.
