Tremosine sul Garda is an area characterized by deep valleys, surrounded by a regional park of the Alto Garda Bresciano. The most populated fractions are Pieve and Vesio, with several other fractions, all wonderful and interesting to visit. Campione del Garda is the only area that directly faces the lake. The altitude varies from the lowest fraction, Campione, at 65m above sea level, to the highest fraction, Campi, at 691m above sea level.
Climate
The climate of Tremosine sul Garda is mild in winter and hot, but not humid, during the summer. These climatic conditions create a Mediterranean atmosphere, with a landscape rich in vegetation. Origins of the name
The toponym "Tremosine" has been present since 1185, although its origins are still uncertain. According to a first theory, the name derives from the Etruscan "Tremusina". A second theory instead, supports that the name derives from the word "tramoggia", which means "measure of three moggio", referring to the conformation of the territory.
History
Pre-Roman era
The first traces of human settlement in Tremosine sul Garda date back to the Neolithic period. Objects have been found in various places, including Pieve, Lis, Calvarice and Castello. In addition, there are traces of settlements already in the Etruscan era.
Roman era
During the Roman era, wealthy Roman citizens had villas and fields in the area, where tombs decorated with epitaphs were also erected. Fifteen funerary inscriptions have been found, as well as coins dating back to the period 160-180.
Medieval era
In 1185, the first written testimony of the presence of Tremosine sul Garda was recorded, when the archpriest Martino went to the conclave for the election of Pope Urban III. The latter invested him with the assets in the municipality. Above the altar of the god Bergimus, the first Christian parish was built, later replaced by a Gothic church in the 12th century.
