The connection between Lenno, Mezzegra, and Tremezzo dates back to medieval times when the parish of Lenno elected a general mayor over the three individual communities. In 1928, the municipality of Tremezzina was established following the merger of the municipalities of Lenno, Mezzegra, and Tremezzo. In 1947, the municipality was abolished and the pre-existing municipalities were reconstituted. In 2014, the municipality of Tremezzina was again established by merging the municipalities of Lenno, Mezzegra, Ossuccio, and Tremezzo. This process was approved by a consultative referendum in 2013, in which 63% of the voters supported the establishment of the municipality.
Symbols
The coat of arms and flag of the municipality of Tremezzina were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on June 13, 2017. The flag is a white cloth with a blue border.

The fourteen chapels, all built between 1635 and 1710, are in the Baroque style and adorned with 230 stucco and terracotta statues, created by different artists such as Agostino Silva, Carlo Gaffuri, and Innocenzo Torriani.

The territory of Tremezzina has numerous historic villas of great architectural importance. Of these, Villa Carlotta stands out, located in Tremezzo and built in the 18th century. The villa became the property of Gian Battista Sommariva, who collected important works by Antonio Canova and Luigi Acquisti.
