Origin of the name and history of Tremenico

The name Tremenico has Latin origins and means extremity. The inhabitants of this village are called tremenicesi. The history of Tremenico is very interesting, with its own church since 1367 and a deep-rooted mining tradition, testified by the feldspar quarries present in the territory. Today, many traditions still live on, such as the ancient traditional costume called "stampàde". Furthermore, Tremenico was part of the Archdiocese of Milan and recorded a strong migratory flow towards Piedmont, Venice, Tuscany, and Rome starting from the sixteenth century.

What to see in Tremenico: monuments and places of interest

Tremenico has many places of interest to visit, such as the Church of Sant'Agata and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Avano. Don't miss the chance to visit the Oratory of San Carlo and the feldspar mine, where you can rediscover the mining history of the village. Finally, don't miss the opportunity to visit the peasant village of Fenile and the Cantar di Pietra Museum, inaugurated in February 2020.

Demographic evolution and anthropic geography

The population of Tremenico has grown over the years, going from 161 inhabitants in 1751 to 412 in 1859. Today, Tremenico has 167 inhabitants. Avano, instead, is a hamlet along the road to Pagnona that may take its name from the Greek nobleman C. Avieno Filosseno sent to "colonize" Valvarrone by Julius Caesar.
