Treiso
Treiso: a picturesque town in Piedmont
Let me introduce you to Treiso, a picturesque town located in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont, which has a population of around 759 inhabitants. The name comes from the Latin word Tres, which was given by the Romans to the small settlement three kilometers away from Alba. In history, one of the most important settlements in the area was Pertinace, where the Roman Emperor Pertinace lived.
The history of Treiso
Treiso became an autonomous town in 1957, thanks to the bill proposal of the Albese deputy Teodoro Bubbio, who detached it from Barbaresco. This decision contributed to the evolution of the town, which has grown steadily since the 1950s, both in terms of population and economic development. The famous novel by Giuseppe Fenoglio, "A Private Matter," is set in this town and nearby Alba.
In addition, since 2010 an asteroid in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter has been officially named 13494 Treiso.
Symbols
Treiso has its own coat of arms and flag. The coat of arms depicts a grape cluster on the left, a vineyard on the right, and a tower in the middle that symbolizes the Treiso castle. The flag consists of three vertical stripes of red, white, and black.
Demographic evolution
Over the years, the population of Treiso has remained quite stable. However, in the 1950s and 1960s, the growth rate was particularly high. In 1961, the population was around 940 people, while in 2018, it was about 759 people.
Ethnic groups and foreign minorities
The foreign community in Treiso is rather small, with a population of 77 people as of 31 December 2017. Most of these people come from Romania, with a significant presence of 27 inhabitants.
