Welcome to the Province of Chieti!

Hello friends, today I'll talk to you about the beautiful province of Chieti, located in central Abruzzo. With its inhabitants and an area of , it includes 104 municipalities and is the most populous province in Abruzzo, second only to L'Aquila in extension.

Physical Geography

The territory of Chieti is characterized by a great orographic and landscape variety. On one hand, we have mountains, valleys, and hills, on the other hand, we have the coastal plain and the Sangro Valley. The northern part of the province is more rugged and uninhabited, while the southern part is rich in small scattered settlements.

In this province, we can admire part of the Maiella massif, the second highest mountain in the Apennines after the Gran Sasso. Here there are 61 mountains and 75 different hills, creating a unique environment in the world. In addition, the province of Chieti is crossed by the Pescara River to the north and the Trigno River to the southeast, which also marks the border with the Molise region.

Orography and Hydrography

As previously mentioned, the province of Chieti is characterized by the limestone massif of the Maiella, which provides numerous underground watercourses. On the surface, there are several imposing rivers: the Aterno-Pescara, the Sangro, the Trigno, the Alento, the Aventino, the Foro, and the Sinello.

Thanks to karst phenomena, surface and underground waters are abundant, but they are often separated. It is important to pay attention to the water levels in these areas and to respect the surrounding nature to preserve this environment as best as possible.

In Conclusion

And here we are at the end of this story about the wonderful province of Chieti. I hope I have introduced you better to this part of Italy, with its magnificent mountains, watercourses, and suggestive valleys. If you have the opportunity to visit it, do not hesitate to do so, you will be enchanted!
