Trecastelli was established with regional law n. 18/2013, which established the merger of the municipalities of Ripe, Castel Colonna, and Monterado, effective from January 1st, 2014. From this date, the three previous municipalities ceased to exist as such and became municipalities under Article 31 of the municipal statute. The seat of the scattered municipality of Trecastelli is located in Ripe.
Following the merger, Trecastelli was granted its coat of arms and banner, which represent the three towers of Ripe, Castel Colonna, and Monterado, symbols of the city's origins, and a golden star, symbol of aspiration to higher things.
