Trausella

Trausella: a look at the past of a Piedmontese municipality

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Trausella, a small municipality in the metropolitan city of Turin, which unfortunately no longer exists as of January 1, 2019! It has merged with the municipalities of Meugliano and Vico Canavese to become the new municipality of Valchiusa.

But why not discover together some history and beauties of Trausella?

Physical Geography

Trausella was located in Val Chiusella, in Piedmont. The town was situated on a vast plateau at the foot of Mount Bric di Trausella and could boast a privileged position. In fact, the municipal territory rose to the northwest with Punta Palit and to the north with Monte Gregorio, which dominated the entrance to the Aosta Valley.

Trausella: history and beauties of a disappeared Piedmontese municipality.

History

Trausella, or rather ''Trausela'' in the Piedmontese language, can boast an ancient history rich in meaning. Unfortunately, we do not have much information about the first settlements, but we know that the town was very important and strategic for defense against barbarian invasions. In addition, in the Middle Ages, Trausella itself gained great autonomy and became an independent municipality.

Symbols

One of the aspects that made Trausella unique were its symbols. In fact, the coat of arms and the standard were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 2015. The standard was a split drapery of blue and yellow, colors that were very representative of the municipality.

Monuments and places of interest

Trausella was a real gem when it came to monuments and places of interest to visit. An example above all is the Parish of San Grato: built in 1848, it was entirely renovated in 2009 while maintaining its original layout. Inside the church, it was possible to admire a wooden pulpit and a rich baldachin.

But not only that! In Trausella, many other interesting buildings could be found, such as Casa Egger, Castello di Castellamezzana, and Torre del Brembilla. These were places rich in history and charm that brought the atmosphere of past eras to life.

Society

As in any municipality, Trausella also had its own demographic evolution. Unfortunately, as a very small municipality, the population never exceeded 124 inhabitants.

Administration

As in any municipality, various administrations have succeeded one another over time in Trausella. Here is a table to better understand:

Other administrative information

The municipality was part of the Val Chiusella, Valle Sacra and Dora Baltea Canavesana Mountain Community. This was an important consortium that dealt with the territorial, administrative, and environmental issues of the area.

Notes

In summary, as you have understood, Trausella was a truly special place, not only for its history and beauty. Of course, the fact that it no longer exists as an independent municipality makes us a little melancholy... but who knows, maybe one day we can return to visit these enchanted places! In the meantime, we can console ourselves by thinking that Trausella is now part of a larger municipality, Valchiusa, which preserves all its traditions and beauty.

Other projects

If you want to deepen your interest in Trausella, I invite you to visit the official website of the municipality of Valchiusa and the Trausella Wikipedia page.

See you next time!
