Trasaghis

Hello, welcome to Trasaghis: a town between mountains and river

Trasaghis is a town located in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia with a population of 2109 inhabitants. It sits at an elevation of 217 meters above sea level on the right bank of the Tagliamento river. In addition to the town center, the municipality includes the hamlets of Alesso with the extension of Borgo Oncedis, Avasinis, Braulins, and Peonis.

A story of rebirth after the earthquake

Trasaghis suffered severe destruction in the earthquake of 1976, during which much of the town collapsed, including the main church dedicated to Margherita di Antiochia. The new church was rebuilt shortly before, while the ruins of the original church are still visible. The Church of San Michele dei Pagani in Braulins, dating back probably to the Lombard period, was restored by the inhabitants of the Bragolino castle in the 13th century. In Peonis, a new church is being built under the design of the Udine architect Sergio Zanella. Here, one can admire a devotional fresco, a triptych with the figures of the Madonna with Child adored by Saint Anthony of Padua in the center, and Saint John the Baptist on the left, and Saint Dominic on the right. It dates back to the second half of the 18th century and is attributed to Biagio Cestari, an artist from Osoppo.

Symbols and honors

The municipality has a coat of arms granted by royal decree in 1928 and a gonfalone granted by DPR in 1979.

The Friulian language is part of the local culture

In Trasaghis, along with Italian, the Friulian language is regularly used by the local population. The Friulian language spoken in Trasaghis belongs to the central-eastern Friulian variants, and its use is considered important to preserve the local culture.

Cultural events

Among the most important events in Trasaghis is the Raspberry and Blueberry Festival, organized every year by the local Pro Loco chaired by Giuseppina Di Doi. This event attracts people of all ages and from all over the region to celebrate these delicious local fruits.

In general, Trasaghis is a town worth visiting to appreciate the beauty of its mountain and river landscapes, enjoy its culture, and taste the excellence of its local products. It is no coincidence that a very famous film, "We All Loved Each Other So Much" by Ettore Scola from 1974, is also set in its surroundings, in which Stefania Sandrelli says she comes from Trasaghis, near Peonis.
