The History of Torrita Tiberina

The toponym "Turritula" first appears in a historical document dating back to 747 AD, in which Charlemagne donates the territories to the Benedictine monks of Sant'Andrea in Flumine. During the construction period of the bridge in Montorso sul Tevere, in 1902-1903, a labor agitation occurred which has been documented in the State Archives of Rome.

The town offers several attractions of great interest, including the archaeological areas of the Archaic Settlement Colli della Città and the Necropolis of Grotte Pinte. Additionally, you can't miss the religious architectures, such as the Church of San Tommaso Apostolo (originally a chapel of the castle) which preserves paintings by Pinturicchio and Carlo Maratta, or the Church of S. Among the natural areas of greatest interest, we find the Nazzano Natural Reserve, Tevere-Farfa, which is home to an extraordinary variety of animal and plant species.

The route consists of four stages, from Monterosi to Calcata, from Calcata to Sant'Oreste, from Sant'Oreste to Torrita Tiberina and from Torrita Tiberina to Civitella San Paolo.
