Torrevecchia Pia

Welcome to Torrevecchia Pia!

Hello everyone! Today I'll talk to you about a small town located in the province of Pavia, called Torrevecchia Pia.

A brief history of Torrevecchia Pia

Torrevecchia Pia (which in Pavia dialect is called "Turvégia") is a town that has a long history behind it. It dates back to the 11th century and was initially part of the Bascapè fiefdom, belonging to the homonymous family. We then find the town in the 16th century as part of the Landriano fiefdom, which belonged to the Taverna family.

In the 18th century, Torrevecchia Pia was no longer a feudal territory and since the 13th century (if not earlier) it belonged to the Milanese territory, specifically to the parish of San Giuliano Milanese. In 1786 it was included in the province of Pavia and in 1863 it took the name Torrevecchia Pia.

In 1872, Torrevecchia Pia incorporated the municipalities of Vigonzone and Zibido al Lambro. Vigonzone was partly a fiefdom of a Milanese abbey, Sant'Ambrogio, and was part of the parish of San Giuliano. Zibido al Lambro, on the other hand, belonged to the Landriano fiefdom and was distinguished from Torrevecchia Pia, as it belonged to the vicariate of Binasco.
