A dive into the history of Torre Pallavicina

Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about Torre Pallavicina, a scattered municipality in the Bergamo area with just over a thousand inhabitants. The roots of the village date back to Roman times, but it's the following centuries that saw Torre Pallavicina as the protagonist of important historical events. In the Middle Ages, the territory passed under the lordship of the "Barbò", a Ghibelline family that built the famous Tower of Tristano Sforza, one of the symbolic monuments of the town still today. It is said that the tower was built for defensive purposes, to control the border with the provinces of Brescia and Cremona, as well as the course of the Oglio river. Next to the tower, a palace was then built, which once housed the Pallavicino family.

Torre Pallavicina in recent history

In the 19th century, the municipality went through a period of strong economic crisis, due to the renunciation of privileges from the Cisalpine Republic and the disappearance of ancient activities such as agriculture and sharecropping. With the end of World War II, the situation improved significantly, thanks to the development of the industry that appeared in the surrounding area: small artisanal activities and textile industries were born.
