Torre d'Arese
Welcome to Torre d'Arese: A Brief Journey into History and Culture
Hi everyone! Today I'll be talking about Torre d'Arese, a municipality in the province of Pavia in Lombardy. Are you ready to discover the secrets of this small village? Well, let's get started!
The history of Torre d'Arese dates back to 812, when a "Tower" was mentioned exactly where the municipality stands today. In the fifteenth century, the village was known as "Tower of the heirs of Giovanni Arese" and was a feudal estate of the Beccaria of Pavia. Over time, it changed hands until it became the property of the Milanese Arese family, counts of the neighboring Castel Lambro.
In 1676, following the extinction of the male line of the Arese family, the village passed to the Visconti Borromeo Arese and then, by inheritance, to the Litta Borromeo Arese in 1751. The inhabitants of Torre d'Arese were often involved in conflicts between these aristocratic families and suffered the effects of wars and struggles for power.
During the fascist period, the municipality of Torre d'Arese was suppressed and merged with Magherno. Only after World War II did the village become autonomous again. In recent years, Torre d'Arese has seen significant improvements in its services, with the opening of a new nursery school, a daycare center, a pharmacy, and the redevelopment of urban roads and public green spaces.
Church of San Martino Vescovo
The Church of San Martino Vescovo is one of the most important monuments in Torre d'Arese. Built in the seventeenth century, it was consecrated on June 26, 1887. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin, patron of soldiers and horses, as well as protector of farmers. Inside, you can admire some beautiful paintings and frescoes that date back to the end of the nineteenth century.

Demographic Evolution
Torre d'Arese currently has about 928 inhabitants. The population of the village has grown steadily over the years, but it has also been affected by emigration to large cities and abroad.
Administration
The civil life of Torre d'Arese takes place in the town hall, located near the church. Currently, the mayor of the municipality is Mario Rossi, who was elected in 2019. The town council regularly meets to discuss the community's problems and plan the development of the territory.
