Hello everyone and welcome to Torre Beretti e Castellaro, a municipality in the province of Pavia in Lombardy. With its population of 510 inhabitants, this town is a peaceful place where you can enjoy country life and tranquility.

A privileged geographical location

Located in southwestern Lomellina, Torre Beretti e Castellaro is not far from the left bank of the Po river. The nearest major city is Pavia, and even Milan is not too far away. Torre Beretti (La Tur in Lomellina dialect) is located on the alluvial plain, while Castellaro de' Giorgi (Al Castla in Lomellina dialect) is situated at a higher position, on the edge of the diluvial plain terrace. Thanks to this location, the landscape you can admire is typical of the Lombard countryside, with wheat fields, pastures, and cornfields.

A history rich in events

The municipality of Torre Beretti e Castellaro was created in 1928 by merging the two old municipalities of Torre Beretti and Castellaro de' Giorgi. The name was given thanks to a tower in the village.

Torre Beretti developed rather late compared to other Lomellina centers and took its current name from its lords, the Beretta della Torre. Following the fate of Frascarolo, in 1441 it was enfeoffed to the Birago family of Milan and in 1522 to the imperial chancellor Mercurino Arborio di Gattinara, who was also lord of Sartirana Lomellina. Following Sartirana's fortunes, Torre Beretti remained with the Arborio di Gattinara family until the 17th century.

Unlike Torre Beretti, Castellaro de' Giorgi and Cassina de' Bossi had different events. Castellaro was feudally owned by the Varesi and Cassina de' Bossi was enfeoffed to the Canobbio family. It was only in 1806 that Cassina de' Bossi was united with Torre Beretti and definitively annexed in 1818.

The demographic evolution of Torre Beretti e Castellaro has been constant over time. In 1971, the municipality had just over 600 inhabitants, while in 2021 the population counts just over 500 people.
