Torrazzo

Welcome to Torrazzo!

Hello friends! Today I will be talking about Torrazzo, a small town in the province of Biella, in Piedmont. With only 204 inhabitants, this village is characterized by the presence of the Ivrea morainic ridge.

History

Torrazzo has a long history dating back to the pre-Roman period, as evidenced by the archaeological remains found in the area. Over the centuries, the town has been subject to various dominations, including the Roman and Lombard ones. During the Middle Ages, it became an important center for textile production. Fortunately, many historical sites in Torrazzo are still visible, including the castle and the Romanesque church.

Torrazzo: a small municipality between history and sport.

Symbols

Like every Italian municipality, Torrazzo also has its coat of arms and flag. The coat of arms depicts a tower with the flag presenting the symbol of the municipality.

Society

The town is very small and its population is constantly decreasing. In recent decades, Torrazzo has experienced a strong depopulation due to migration to large cities. However, the community is very active and organizes numerous cultural and sports events throughout the year.

Demographic evolution

The town had its peak population in the 1950s, with an average of around 500 inhabitants. However, in recent years, the population has stabilized around 200 inhabitants.

Administration

The municipality of Torrazzo is part of the province of Biella and is governed by a mayor and the City Council. The municipality was part of the "Alta Valle Elvo Mountain Community", abolished in 2009 and merged, together with the "Bassa Valle Elvo Mountain Community", into the "Valle dell'Elvo Mountain Community".

Other administrative formations

The town does not belong to any metropolitan city or urban area.

Sport

One of the strengths of Torrazzo is sports. It has the Bocciodromo della Serra, the venue for various national and international bocce championships. This sport is very popular among the locals who also organize amateur tournaments.

Notes

Torrazzo is a beautiful example of a small town that manages to maintain its values and traditions despite the passage of time.
