The history of Torrazza Coste

The Tower with fortress erected in the country a century before gave name and life to the town of Torrazza Coste. In the twelfth century, Frederick Barbarossa spoke of the territory of Turris Centum Costarum as a feud belonging to the Bishop of Tortona to be annexed to the Principality of Pavia, which later became a fief of the Beccaria, a family with influence on the Visconti.

The first known localities of the municipality of Torrazza Coste were those on the hills overlooking the current capital. Nebbiolo is mentioned as early as 1164, when it became part of the Pavia territory. Later, Sant'Antonino prevailed, which was the name by which the municipality was known until the beginning of the nineteenth century, although for some time the capital had already become Torrazza Coste.

After their extinction in 1591, the territory was enfeoffed to the Rovida counts of Pavia, to whom it remained until the end of feudalism.
